Gemma Kitto teaches birth partner skills at a Born to Birth Cornwall group antenatal class in St Austell

While I was born ‘in the North’ and have travelled aplenty, Cornwall is my home.

St Austell has always been a part of that: I grew up coastal path adventures with family as a child, adventures through the Cornish Alps as a teen and more hazy Eden session nights as an adult, not to mention eating my bodyweight in food in Charlestown.

Now my work as an antenatal teacher and doula regularly brings me up the A30 (and left a bit) as I support families on their birth and baby adventure.

The doula network connects me to pregnancy, birth and postpartum on an international level, but what I see, hear and support every day is often unique to Cornwall.

From our lifestyles and priorities, to our road network and maternity policies, everything about how we prepare for birth here is just different enough to affect your birth.

Antenatal classes in St Austell: FAQ

  • Yes absolutely!

Not only am I a FEDANT registered and certified antenatal teacher, I am also a certified and practising birth and postnatal doula. This means I am able to bring a brilliant balance of theory and working practice in the birth and postnatal space in my antenatal classes.

Plus, I am an expert and experienced teacher: before this life, I taught GCSE and A-Level English for over 14 years. So I don’t just know my birth and baby stuff, I know how to deliver it in an engaging and effective way too.

  • Yes, I regularly teach antenatal classes and birth preparation courses in Helston.

When you book a 1-2-1 course with me, I come to your home to deliver it, meaning you have total comfort and convenience at all times.

Alternatively, my group antenatal classes in Truro are around 35 minutes from Helston. They’re held at the Family Space in Threemilestone: I work here because it is the most perfect environment to deliver antenatal courses. It’s light, airy, comfortable and far more pleasant than a village hall! Plus there’s plenty of parking.

  • This is easy: because I’ll be focused on you.

As a working doula, I know just how individualised birth and baby-life is.

As a Cornish doula, I know how unique our set up can be.

Unlike big name brands, there’s nothing standardised or generic about the antenatal classes I deliver. Every single course is planned, tweaked and tailored to suit the parents-to-be I’m working with, and the experiences you’re likely to face.

This is a level of personalisation that big name brands just cannot match.
