‘The Nest’
The warm & welcoming new parent community in Cornwall you’ve been looking for…
A space to find support, friendship, and a moment to breathe.
The weekly pause every new parent needs
You’re here because of your baby - but really, this space is about you…
Since 2023, ‘The Nest’ has created moments where everything feels just a little bit lighter, even on the really tough days.
No pressure.
No expectations.
Just the warm & supportive space to land for a while.
And ninety minutes later, you’ll leave carrying a little more confidence, solidarity, and community — the things every new parent deserves.
“‘The Nest’ made me feel that I didn’t need to be doing anything or being anywhere. It just felt so easy being there - like I could catch my breath...”
Tucked into the cosy calm of The Family Space in Threemilestone, Truro, The Nest is a weekly gathering for parents of small babies that gently transforms maternity leave.
This is the moment in the week where, while your small human feeds, sleeps, or quietly explores a few gentle sensory materials, the focus comes back to you.
Believe me — it makes all the difference.
As a postpartum doula and mum-of-two myself, I know how rare those golden moments of relief can be.
To talk with other parents who understand the life you're living right now.
To sit down and actually enjoy something to eat or drink.
To find answers and reassurance without judgement or dismissal
“It was exactly what I hoped and thought it would be. The Nest was welcoming and friendly. It was warm and the perfect place to recharge.
Gemma makes you feel seen, listening to any worries and offering constructive advice all whilst serving you a hot drink and delicious homemade treat. I’ve only been twice but it’s quickly becoming my favourite part of the week. ”
These days of early parenthood were never meant to be done alone & ‘The Nest’ makes sure you don’t have to.
A session of ‘The Nest’ looks like this…
No loud music, no jazz hands, no cliques: just the time, space & support you deserve
The first time, you’ll probably arrive at ‘The Nest’ a little nervous. Everyone does.
Maybe you’ll be early.
Maybe a little late.
Possibly still in your PJs.
However & whenever you arrive is completely fine - you’re busy and baby life comes first.
Greeting you and your baby at the door, I’ll show you where coats, pushchairs and shoes can go before leading you into the space so many Nesters now think of as home.
Nothing in this space is accidental.
The gentle scent of aromatherapy.
Music to make your shoulders drop.
A rug scattered with textures, colours and shapes for small hands to explore.
And circle of faces smiling - genuinely glad to meet you.
I’ll introduce you to the crew, take your drink order and leave you to get settled.
And then the magic happens.
Curiosity creates conversation;
“How old is your little one?”
“What is their name?”
“How are you today?”
“Those nerves disappear the moment you go through the door. Gemma greets you by name, shows you around and supports you in your ‘newness’. The social side is made easy by the fact everyone is a bit focused on their babies and that Gemma facilitates group chats in a relaxed way.”
Then the stories start to emerge.
Who slept (and who didn’t), questions on feeding, nappies and celebrations of a brilliant Vinted find.
No-one stays still but everyone is present.
One mum changes a nappy while sharing her birth story.
Another rocks and sways her baby to sleep as she asks questions on feeding.
A third reaches for new toys as she tells her neighbour that she’s dealing with exactly the same thing.
“Everyone talks to you, no one gets left out. We all share our experiences and no one judges. Our babies can play with toys while we all chat which I never really have anymore...”
This is motherhood in action, as it was always meant to be.
A supportive space that flows from question to story to rant - where no one expects you to have it together and everyone is hear to listen.
And somewhere in the middle of those ninety minutes, between the decent coffee and the homemade flapjack, something shifts.
You realise you're not the only one figuring this out.

Frequently asked questions

‘The Nest’ is about stage, not age but more than anything it’s about comfort and readiness.
We welcome parents of babies from birth until they’re just-about-crawling but the decision about when to start coming (and when to stop) is always in your hands.
Most parents tend to join us when they feel ready to start getting out of the house for the first time, but this is different for everyone. The youngest baby we have had so far was 12 days old, but we have people coming for the first time when their babies are 6-7 months old too.
-
Honestly, it doesn’t matter.
Everyone here knows what life with a baby is & no-one minds when babies cry.
You have the space and support to do what you need to calm your baby.
If that means singing, pacing or feeding, you’ll find you’re not the only one doing it!
If that means taking five minutes out to take a breath, Gemma is always happy to take the reins for a little while.
-
Well, most people around the mat will know each other, but they didn’t start that way.
95% of Nesters come for the first time knowing no-one other than their baby.
Everyone remembers that feeling, and that’s why I’ll introduce you and everyone will welcome you into the space in the same way they were.
With questions. With warmth. With care.
And from that point on, these Nesters won’t be strangers.
Over the years, incredible friendships have flourished from ‘The Nest’.
The same people tend to come each week and you’ll find that the more sessions you come to, the quicker your friendships will grow.

Yes!
One of the reasons I use ‘The Family Space’ for ‘The Nest’ is because there’s safe parking right outside the door and baby change facilities you actually want to use.
-
The beauty of ‘The Nest’ is the calm & peace it creates, as well as the time to pause and serve your own needs.
While I love the toddler stage, these aren’t qualities that you tend to find in that stage of parenting.
Most of my second, third etc time parents tend to book a session that fits around their childcare arrangements for older children.
However, if that’s not possible, ‘The Family Space’ runs Play Cafes and other groups which accommodate siblings in the same space.
