The Bump Club
Grab a coffee, pull up a chair and have a chat about all things pregnancy, birth & baby…
“It was very welcoming & relaxed & not intimidating walking into alone. I really enjoyed it!”
You’re here because you’re pregnant (congrats!) and live in Cornwall…
… feel like it’s time to find some mum-to-be-mates (who get it)…
… and love delicious coffee, chilled vibes and a good chat …
Well, Bump Club is the pregnancy meet-up you’ve been looking for.
The welcoming & relaxed way to meet the pregnant friends you’ve been craving…
Yes, making friends as a grown-up is hard.
Yes, making friends as a pregnant grown-up (who’s juggling work, a social calendar, house renovations, and a bajillion pregnancy appointments) is even harder.
BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t find some mum-to-be-mates…
“Definitely go along! It’s really chilled and lovely to chat to people going through the same as you. ”
I know the journey from person to pregnant to parent very well. As a doula and an antenatal teacher (not to mention a Covid mum-of-two!) this journey has been part of my life for the last seven years.
So yes, I absolutely know & love how exciting and wonderful it is to be pregnant.
I also know, both professionally and first-hand, how lonely and isolating it can feel to be navigating pregnancy.
Especially in Cornwall.
“I loved how Gemma led the conversations and you didn’t feel pushed to talk, and I love how everyone was included. Definitely go and experience it - it’s really positive”
Believe me, connecting with other pregnant people helps to take that loneliness away. Taking an hour or so out of your Saturday morning to talk about:
… the highs and the lows …
… the prams and the cots …
… the what-ifs and the to-do list…
… with people who are living that same reality as you, at the same time as you, really can help to the journey from pregnant to parent feel so much lighter.
And of course, some proper ‘You-Time’ with a delicious coffee (other drinks are available) in a setting as fabulous as ‘The Buttermarket’ does it’s bit to help too!
I’d love to come to ‘Bump Club’ but…
I get it: going to meet a bunch of strangers for a coffee on a Saturday to talk about all the crazy-weird things your body is doing, and is about to do, is waaaay out of your comfort zone.
And by nature, us humans really do prefer to stay in our comfort zone.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t come.
So, to put your mind at ease, let me run you through my most-asked Bump Club questions…
-
Bump Club has found it’s home at ‘The Buttermarket’ in Redruth (TR15 2PP)
I’ve chosen this location for some really good reasons…
It’s a beautiful independent venue that has properly delicious drink options (and food if you choose to stay for lunch).
Saturday mornings are nice and quietly chilled environment that’s perfect for chatting.
There’s affordable car-park parking immediately next door (free on the road parking nearby if you’d prefer!)
It is a one-minute walk from the train station and bus stop.
-
Yes of course you can!
Bump Club welcomes every and all pregnant person to the table: whatever pregnancy you’re on, whatever your circumstances.
Your experiences and insights, if you choose to share them, will be so valuable. After all, conversation and story sharing is the way that humans learn best…
-
Nope, not at all.
The beauty of ‘The Buttermarket’ is that is a food-hall venue, which…
has no waiting staff & zero pressure: here, you go to the vendors you choose to order from. If you just want a drink - be that coffee, or juice, or just water, that’s totally fine!
starts food service at midday: Bump Club starts at 10.30 so there won’t be food flying around until much later. If you want to stay on for lunch (which a lot of Bump Clubbers choose to) then you can, but equally you can vamoose before then if you want.
-
Oh I hear this! There are only 40-42 Saturdays in a pregnancy and there’s a lot to do.
That’s why Bump Club is a really flexible pregnancy meet-up.
we 'start at 10.30am
I tend to leave around 11.30-11.45 (when my family turns up for lunch!)
there’s no ‘finish’ time: you leave when you need to or feel ready.
Equally, it’s no big deal if you’re running late or have an errand to do first. We’ll be there.
-
I get asked this every single week, and my answer is always the same…
Virtually everyone arrives at Bump Club by themselves (some come with a friend, but not many).
Essentially, our table is one of strangers. BUT within minutes, you wouldn’t know it
The common ground of pregnancy overcomes the nerves (that everyone has) and gives way to stories, questions, laughter and ‘yes me too! moments.
Honestly, 9/10 when I leave, I look back to see numbers being swapped and Whatsapp groups being formed.
-
I’ve done Bump Clubs with partners & I’ve done them without. While both approaches were good, this is what I learned…
the chatter topics were different - perhaps more restrained - when partners were present.
not everyone came with a partner which made it a bit unbalanced.
partners come along as support, but the people craving the friendships right now tend to be the pregnant people…
That’s why I am totally confident when I say that Bump Club is an event purely for pregnant folk.
It just works best that way.
-
No way! This is a coffee date, pure and simple & chatter goes whichever way the people around the table take it.
Now, of course these people are pregnant so labour, delivery and babies will probably pop-up at some point.
And of course, you can pick my doula brain with all the birth and baby questions you have.
But really we just talk about whatever is on your mind: prams, cots, car seats, house renovations, job changes, clothes…
… just as you would at any coffee meet-up with friends.
-
I don’t believe you should have to pay for friends: that’s silly.
Bump Club is totally free to attend. Just pay for your drinks & food as and when you order them.
-
Purely for logistics, yes you do.
Knowing how many people I’ve got coming to each Bump Club means I can make sure we have enough seats reserved.
-
I am unlikely to be standing under a clock wearing a pink carnation, but you’ll definitely be able to find me…
The day before, I’ll send you a text message with specific details. That means you also have my number if you get lost or need to find me.
I always aim to arrive at ‘The Buttermarket’ 15 mins early; I’ll be the ginger person sat at a big table with a ‘reserved sign’ on it by myself… if you’re a bit later, the ginger person surrounded by pregnant people will be the place to go.
I am really good at spotting ‘Bump Club’ people as they come into Buttermarket: chances are I’ll catch your eye while you’re scanning the room for me!
Join us at The Bump Club…
All pregnant folk are welcome at ‘The Bump Club’!
Whether you’ve just seen those two blue lines, or are deep in the nesting phase, we’d love to meet you…
Our table has limited numbers to keep the warm and friendly vibes going: so booking is essential.
