Postpartum Doula in Cornwall
This chapter feels different. I keep you steady & strong as you find your feet.
Postpartum doula support in Cornwall for a calmer transition into life with your baby.
Lightening the load of the early weeks
The early days, weeks and months with your new baby are like nothing else.
Beautiful.
Overwhelming.
Quietly relentless.
This is a time of huge transition, where your life shifts into a whole other shape, overnight. Trust me when I say that you & your partner were never meant to navigate it alone.
Postpartum is a time where you, your partner and your baby need to find the way forward that keeps everyone happy.
But that can feel daunting - scary even.
After all, when the stakes are so high, you don’t want to get anything wrong.
As your postpartum doula, I ease that pressure, walking along side you (in a physical and virtual sense) to help you navigate the challenges, the options and the life that new normal throws at you.
All so you can find your feet with confidence.
“Gemma has nourished our physical and mental selves: becoming parents is a massive learning curve, if you have the opportunity to choose the postpartum doula option, we would highly recommend her”

Am I your postpartum doula?
Let me be honest: if you’re looking for crystals, incense and a spiritual approach to your entry into parenthood, I am not the right fit.
My approach to postpartum doula support is practical, emotional and grounded in the rhythms of real, everyday life.
Because this isn’t about doing things a certain way.
It’s about finding your way.
And to do that, I support you to do this in a way that feels like you.
“ I was in a bit of a state of panic when my partner went back to work and parents left.
I feel like your support has helped ease me into coping with a new baby a lot better. I’m enjoying spending time with him rather than just feeling terrified. Reducing the number of times you came a week gradually made me realise I can do this.”
Every family I work with is different, so the support I offer is always shaped around your needs, your home and your version of life with a new baby.
But our time together is likely to include:
• gentle support for physical & emotional recovery after birth
• navigating sleep deprivation and the weight of exhaustion
• finding manageable rhythms within the feed–sleep–nappy cycle
• supportive space to talk through the emotional highs and lows of postpartum
• clear, reliable guidance around infant care and feeding
• practical help with everyday life — meals, tidying, shopping, even walking the dog
“Amazing support for mothers transitioning to life with a baby! Before we started, I was just hoping for some help but working with you is so peaceful: you inspired confidence and uplifted us.
I was able to build my trust, recover, feel reassured and gain useful knowledge from your evident expertise. ”
In short, I’m here to help these early days feel lighter, steadier and more manageable.
What we do during our time together is always led by you — by how things feel on the day, what’s needed in the moment, and what will help you move forward with more confidence.
Postpartum support in Cornwall: your questions answered
For many people in the UK, postpartum doula support is still a relatively new idea.
It’s not always something people have come across before — and when I say what I do, the most common question is:
“...what does that actually involve?”
So here’s an explanation of how I help:
-
When clients ask me to do this, I typically spend my time …
listening to the things that feel heavy.
talking through potential options to lighten the load.
providing links for contacts and resources to help.
-
When clients ask me to do this, I typically spend my time …
caring for baby while you catch up on sleep.
reassuring you about things which are normal
supporting you to find solutions to things which are not
cheerleading you endlessly from afar (via Whatsapp) on the days I am not with you.
-
When clients ask me to do this, I typically spend my time:
sending up-to-date & reliable information on everything from c-section wound care to infant sleep.
exploring and explaining options for all forms of baby care & feeding
helping create strong, informed and independent decisions.
signposting towards professionals who can help with specific issues.
-
When clients ask me to do this, I typically spend my time …
changing bed linen & plumping pillows
helping you shower, go to the toilet and wash your hair
using aromatherapy & sound to create a calm atmosphere
-
When clients ask me to do this, I typically spend my time …
checking in regularly to see how things are
celebrating the wins, no matter how small.
supporting you to find your own solutions to issues.
supporting with baby-care (bathing, nappies, feeding etc)
supporting with feeding (formula, bottle and breast)
-
When clients ask me to do this, I typically spend my time …
doing the washing-up & laundry (and putting it all away)
cleaning bathrooms & kitchens
hoovering, dusting and cleaning windows
emptying bins (including the nappy ones!)
tidying and resetting living spaces
-
When clients ask me to do this, I typically spend my time …
designing meal plans filled with the foods you need to recover well.
bringing you breakfast (lunch & dinner) so you don’t need to think about it
filling the slow-cooker with a meal for later
batch-cooking meals to go into your freezer
collecting & unpacking groceries
creating feeding-friendly grazing plates and snack boxes to keep you full through the day
And here’s an explanation of how I work:
-
Whichever package they choose, each postpartum family I work with gets:
dedicated in-person support in their home (or out and about, if preferred)
continuous virtual support via a private WhatsApp space
the option to extend their support* until they’re ready to go solo.
*availability dependent

Investing in postpartum doula support is not the same as getting a friend to help, or a midwife to pop in on her rounds.
As your postpartum doula, I am able to provide the kind of tailored, personalised and consistently reliable support that few others are able to give:
You are my focus: when I arrive at your door, or send you a check-in message, you know my attention is on you. I am ready to sit, listen and hold the space you need to help make this moment lighter.
I work for you, so I get to know you: whether we work together for days, weeks or months, I make sure that get to know exactly what makes you tick. This is what helps me to give you the kind of support you need, when you need it, in the way that works for that moment.
Knowledge that goes beyond the surface: finding you reasons, options and answers for the challenges you face is a huge part of my postpartum doula support. My training and research goes deeper than the leaflets, Reddit thread or AI response. From matrescence to mental health, feeding to sleep issues, I stay up-to-date with new and emerging research and trends to make sure you get the best insights possible.
Self-employed but not solo: doulas do not work alone - the network of independent birth and baby experts is vast, and I regularly refer my postpartum clients to the people who really can help them overcome the most significant of challenges.
-
Don’t get me wrong, I am a very collaborative human being! I love working alongside midwives, lactation consultants and other healthcare professionals.
But I don’t work for them.
As your postpartum doula, I work for you.
You find me, you invest in me, you get every ounce of my time end energy.
No compromises.
-
I happily provide postpartum doula support for families from their baby’s birth up to their first birthday. But the time frames of my support will differ from family to family.
Some arrange support before birth, some after.
Some want support from day one, while others will contact me weeks or months later.
Some will work with me for longer, continuous periods, while others only need a few days or weeks of help.
-
You need to be able to trust me: that’s why we’ll sign a contract before we begin, and create a schedule that helps everyone to know where we’re at.
Our contract will cover the amount of support time you have with me, alongside details of things I can and cannot do for you.
Your support schedule will be built around days and times that work best for you, and your hours will be as fixed or flexible as you need.
The dates and times of your initial package will be agreed when we meet to sign the contract.
If you choose to extend your support, this will be done according to your needs on a fortnightly rolling schedule, which you will then be invoiced for.
-
My postpartum doula packages are constructed around time, with each one offering a different number of core hours.
To secure your time in my diary, my time is paid for in advance.
However, as part of my support, I may pick up groceries or pay for other items for you to ease your transition into parenthood. This will be invoiced to you on a fortnightly basis.
Postpartum Doula Support Packages in Cornwall
Remember, this is about you.
Feeling truly supported looks different for every single family I work with.
Each of my three postpartum doula packages offers a different level of support — but the focus is always the same: helping you feel steady, held and confident in the early weeks and months with your baby so that you can enter parenthood feeling strong.
So the question isn’t “what should I choose?”
It’s: what will help you feel good once your baby is here?
“The ‘logical’ way you approached things were clear and mirrored what I wanted but couldn’t manage myself! The seeing through a new mother’s eyes. The shopping with considering how important little things were. You made me feel more hopeful and confident and your support was totally worth it:”

“Gemma is very hard not to like - we found her support immensely helpful especially being far away from families & friends as now first time parents.
She helped us in a super practical way, giving us support with day-to-day things whilst we were trying to adjust to our new life with a tiny human. Having Gemma on the end of the phone, able to support in any way, over this period gave us so much reassurance”
Booking your postpartum doula support
Get in touch by email : let me know where you live and what stage of pregnancy you’re at.
We’ll chat over the phone, a video call or in-person to talk through the kind of support you’d like.
If I am the right fit for you, we’ll get down the business of contracts and booking in an approximate start date.
If I’m not, I’ll send you in the direction of doulas I know, trust and feel to be a good fit for your needs.
You don’t have to do this alone
Looking for the people who get it?
Pregnancy and postpartum are so much easier when you have people around you who understand exactly what life is like for you right now.
That’s why I created two community spaces for parents & parents-to-be in Cornwall to find their feet, their friends and the confidence to move forwards.
Postnatal bodies need to be strong: nutrient rich & delicious foods help. This ‘nearly perfect postnatal dhal’ ticks all the boxes and is my go to dish for postnatal clients.
