Gemma Kitto teaches birth partner skills at a Born to Birth Cornwall group antenatal class

While I was born ‘in the North’ and have travelled aplenty, Cornwall is my home & Falmouth my playground.

I grew up playing on Gylly beach, spent my twenties racing yachts in Falmouth week and love nothing more than a pint on Customs House Quay during the Shanty festival. While I live in mining country now, my work as a doula and antenatal teacher regularly brings me back into view of the docks and St Antony’s Lighthouse, supporting families on their birth and baby adventure.

And that’s why I deliver my antenatal classes and courses in the way that I do.

Whether you choose a private or group course, there is nothing generalised or standardised about the antenatal classes I provide.

My local working knowledge and experience of family centred birth support, means that I can create totally tailored antenatal classes that are 100% relevant to your…

  • lifestyle and priorities

  • local maternity facilities and trends

  • hopes and fears for the birth of your baby

While the doula network connects me to pregnancy, birth and postpartum on an international level, what I see, hear and support every day is unique to Cornwall: from our lifestyles and priorities, to our road network and maternity policies, everything about how we prepare for birth here is just different enough to affect your birth.

Antenatal classes in Falmouth: FAQ

  • Yes absolutely!

Not only am I a FEDANT registered and certified antenatal teacher, I am also a certified and practising birth and postnatal doula. This means I am able to bring a brilliant balance of theory and working practice in the birth and postnatal space in my antenatal classes.

Plus, I am an expert and experienced teacher: before this life, I taught GCSE and A-Level English for over 14 years. So I don’t just know my birth and baby stuff, I know how to deliver it in an engaging and effective way too.

  • Yes, I regularly teach private antenatal classes in and around Falmouth: when you book a 1-2-1 course with me, I come to your home to deliver it, meaning you have total comfort and convenience at all times.

My group antenatal course is based 30 minutes away at The Family Space in Threemilestone: I work here because it is the most perfect environment to deliver antenatal courses. It’s light, airy, comfortable and far more pleasant than a village hall! Definitely worth the travel time.

  • This is easy: because I’ll be focused on you.

As a working doula, I know just how individualised birth and baby-life is.

As a Cornish doula, I know how unique our set up can be.

Unlike big name brands, there’s nothing standardised or generic about the antenatal classes I deliver. Every single course is planned, tweaked and tailored to suit the parents-to-be I’m working with, and the experiences you’re likely to face.

This is a level of personalisation that big name brands just cannot match.
